Using this innovation, the capsule’s diaphragm is lighter; therefore, it moves much faster and delivers more clarity, precision as well as reduces colorations and distortions.

The BB29 sounds fantastic, It has the effortless presence of an Elam 251 and the robust nature of a good old 87!...I love it and can't wait to try it on more things.

These mics truly sound great on everything. From orchestral recording to drum overheads, the Amethyst is a Swiss Army knife of recording. Warm, detailed, and useable in any situation.

This mic was the last one standing after several shoot-outs. It really sounds huge.. well done!!!

The new JZ BB29 sounds amazing on acoustic instruments like acoustic guitar, violin, and cello. The gentle lift in the top end gives the mic and open natural yet detailed sound but the little dip around 8-10K stops any harshness. This also helps vocals cut through without the need for extensive EQ to be added. The mic is so quiet which again makes it great for recording lower volume instruments or being used as a room mic. It’s a very versatile mic that would be a great addition to any mic collection.

Incredibly good

"I'm really impressed. So easy to get a good sound with this!"

Awesome microphone.

"Awesome microphone."

FOTIOS D. (5/5)

Great snaredrum mic (and other purposes)

"I have a lot of JZ mics at my disposal, Blackhole 2’s, BT202’s, V11 and the V67 but the Amethyst made an interresting combi with my brass high tuned snaredrum. Apart from it’s handy form factor to mic that snare between the toms and hi hat in my current drumkit it sounds awesome! I place it like it is just peaking over the rim, looking if something is coming up from the other side so not faced slightly downward towards the drumhead but level. And a few cm from the rim so it picks up plenty of drum and not only the head. In all fairness this mic does very many things really well but thus was a little surpricing to me. ."

Very nice!

"Incredible sound, amazing looks. Loving my new Latvian mic."

Erik P. (5/5)

Precise and clean sound

"Very precise and clean sound, yet the vocals feel upfront and confidently take their place in the mix. In the future, I’d like to experiment with colorful preamps to pair with this microphone. Also, excellent customer service. Highly recommended!"

Dmytro K. (5/5)

I love it

"I am very impressed with these 2 mics. Smooth top end and pleasing mids and lows. They work a treat on anything I throw at them. There will be more acquisitions!!!"

William J. (5/5)

Terrible mid leading website

"I feel very mis lead by this mic. It is pictured w a shock mount. That it doesn’t come with (you find this out when it arrives) the mount is unavailable separately so the mic is still in its box in used in my mic locker and will remain so. Further to this. Weeks after this disappointing purchase I’ve just got an £80 bill from UPS for taxes import which is another hidden cost I didn’t expect. I feel totally mislead and customer service did nothing to help or resolve this. Although I might not seem it by this email, I look for the good in people. But I would discourage anyone from buying a JZ Mic. It’s likely you won’t actually get what you want, you’ll have to order extra’s you might not be able to purchase and it will all cost 40% more then you think. Not impressed"

Amethyst at The Foundry Music Lab

"Having used this mic across many sources I have to say it has performed well and has offered me a great alternative option . Controlling bright harsh top end and bringing a warm pleasing bottom end to both female and male vocals. I have a pair and found the imagery as overheads was great and brought a nice weight to drums. Excellent on my Yamaha U2 upright piano both in stereo and mono again warm bottom end and a smooth top end. Ideal as a VO mic for podcast, talking book content. I paired the mic up with my UAD 4-710 mic pre running in full valve stage which was a perfect combination also used the mic through my Audient EVO 16 again worked perfectly. The very low noise floor allows for driving any input stage and brings out the authentic quality, cranking the Johns mic setup produce a great big characterful sound to an old ludwig that was brought in to record. I could go on but anyone looking for character and are in the "getting that vintage sound" camp this mic will definitely deliver. Highly recommend this product and JZ do some great deals from time to time!"
