Dumb system for the shape of the mic

"The system is designed for a round mic, the JZ V67 is a thin oval shape and it just doesn’t feel safe. I feel like the mic is going come loose at any moment. Seems like a lazy way out, a more well designed system for this shaped mic would be much better"

Generic Rycote mount is adequate but awkward. I think JZ could do much better themselves.

"This OEM Rycote is a bit like using a square peg with a round hole. Due to the unique shape of the Vintage series, the side screws had to be forced a little beyondtheir limits to accommodate the width of my V12. The perpendicular screws couldn’t extend far enough in to securely grip the front and back. I had to use rubber shims to be able to secure the mic. The small round tips that contact the curved sides of the mic were difficult to keep from slipping off. If the tips were shaped to conform with the radius of the sides, making a secure grip would be easy. If these mounts were more of an oval shape and employed appropriately contoured tips, this would be significantly more compact and secure. The Vintage Series has more mics than any of the other JZ series which have their own dedicated shock mounts. I love my V12. I would love to be able to buy a shock mount designed by JZ to fit the Vintage series perfectly. Something similar to Austrian Audio’s shock mount would be much better. If you could make a pop filter that would attach directly to the mount, that would be icing on the cake."

The Shocking Truth

"I bought a few shock mounts to go with my V67s and so glad I did. I'm getting much better positioning than my other shock mounts. And the 67s fit like a glove. Robust, good build, very happy!"

Not yet received as it’s on back order!

Takes quite a bit of

"Takes quite a bit of time to install and set up but then of course that'll go quicker and become easier as I use it more and more and it seems to do the job very well! The only thing I thought was real unfortunate – but it's not a bad problem or anything – is the fact that the vintage shockmount didn't fit in the bottom compartment of the small wooden box. I'd of just loved to be able to have my vintage mic and it's shock mount both tydied together in my nice JZ wooden box. :)"

Rycote licensed goodness

"This is my favourite shock mount of all. It's the most comprehensive and easiest to place shockmount for all round microphones. For JZ mics their flat design means that you can "only" turn the mic inside the shockmount by 90°, still very usable."

Underwhelming

"I found it a little surprising that this is the mechanism design for the Vintage 67 & 47 mics – four screws, like a Christmas tree holder. Although it does hold the mic, you have to do it carefully, and I don't have a lot of confidence in the way my expensive mic is being held. Feels like it could pop out. It definitely seems like an afterthought to what is a cumbersome mic shape design. Surely, if one is going to design a microphone from scratch, one would spend a little more time considering how it would be anchored in a shock mount. Would be better if they either modify the mic design to have four notches for each screw to engage OR rethink the whole apparatus. Otherwise, the build quality and shock absorbing functionality seems at least adequate."
